Samsung Electronics is accelerating the development of a humanoid robot prototype and plans to publicly unveil its self-developed humanoid robot at CES 2027, the world's largest electronics and information technology trade show, to be held in Las Vegas in January 2027.

The company's robot business group, which reports directly to co-chief executive officer Roh Tae-moon, is leading the preparation of the prototype for the exhibition. Yoon Jang-hyun oversees both the AI software and hardware tracks for the robot. Samsung Electronics has secured multiple patents covering hip joint design technology, next-generation robotic hands, and AI-based motion control.

In addition to its in-house development, Samsung Electronics is pursuing a dual-track strategy with its subsidiary Rainbow Robotics, a listed South Korean robotics company. Rainbow Robotics is currently focused on enhancing the maximum payload and working radius of its dual-arm industrial robot, the RB-RMB 2, whose prototype was unveiled in April 2026. Under the division of labor, Rainbow Robotics will primarily handle industrial robots for field applications, while Samsung Electronics will present its blueprint for a general-purpose humanoid robot at CES 2027.

Earlier in 2026, Hyundai Motor Group, South Korea's largest automaker, showcased its next-generation Atlas robot. The Atlas is developed by Boston Dynamics, a robotics company acquired by Hyundai Motor Group in 2021.
