Samsung to Supply OLED Touch Panels Exclusively for Apple MacBook Ultra
Samsung will exclusively supply OLED touchscreen panels for Apple's upcoming MacBook Ultra, with an initial batch of about 250,000 units for 14-inch and 16-inch models to be produced at its 8.6-generation line in Asan, South Korea, starting mass production around August. The panels are expected to debut with the MacBook Ultra in early 2027, alongside macOS 27, which will introduce touch-optimized interactions.
Samsung will be the sole supplier of OLED touchscreen panels for Apple's new MacBook Ultra. The initial batch, covering 14-inch and 16-inch models, will be produced on Samsung's 8.6-generation OLED line in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea, with an initial supply of approximately 250,000 units. Mass production is scheduled to begin around August this year.
Due to bottlenecks in technical yield rates, Apple excluded potential partners such as LG Display and BOE during the early development phase, granting Samsung the full exclusive order for the project.
In tandem, the accompanying macOS 27 operating system will introduce a new generation of interaction designed to support touch operations.
