Samsung Unveils USB4 Portable SSDs P9 and P7 at Gamescom 2026

Samsung unveiled two new P-series portable solid-state drives at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne: the flagship P9 and the P7, designed for everyday use. Both models feature USB4 connectivity, targeting high-speed storage needs such as large game installations, ultra-high-resolution media assets, and AI content rendering.

The P9 delivers sequential read speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3,800MB/s, doubling the performance of the previous-generation Samsung T9, which used a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface. The P9's maximum capacity rises to 8TB, maintaining flagship-level transfer performance at that capacity, making it the first USB4 portable SSD on the market to offer an 8TB option.

The P7 also adopts USB4 connectivity, handling tasks such as high-speed file transfers, game library expansion, and media backups. Compared with the USB 3.2 standard, USB4 bandwidth increases from 20Gbps to 40Gbps; under the USB4 Version 2.0 specification, theoretical transfer rates can further reach 80Gbps.

In terms of durability, the P7 supports drop protection of up to 2 meters. The P9, meanwhile, emphasizes professional content creation scenarios, catering to users who need to process high-bitrate video files and large volumes of creative assets.

The Samsung P9 and P7 will be available globally starting August 31, in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB versions.
