Beiyuan Chemical, a subsidiary of Shaanxi Coal Group, signed a pilot project agreement with Xi'an Jiaotong University to produce aviation fuel from carbon dioxide hydrogenation, and inaugurated a research institute for high-value CO2 utilization. The collaboration follows two years of lab-scale research that achieved a CO2 conversion rate above 90% and aviation fuel selectivity exceeding 80%.

On September 7, a signing ceremony for a cooperation project between Beiyuan Chemical, a subsidiary of Shaanxi Coal Group, and Xi'an Jiaotong University, along with the inauguration of the Research Institute for High-Value Carbon Dioxide Utilization, was held at the China Western Science and Technology Innovation Harbor. The two parties signed a cooperation agreement for a pilot project on producing aviation fuel via carbon dioxide hydrogenation.

Since 2023, Beiyuan Chemical and Xi'an Jiaotong University have jointly conducted laboratory-scale research on key technologies for producing aviation kerosene from carbon dioxide hydrogenation. After two years of focused efforts, the lab-scale process achieved a carbon dioxide conversion rate of over 90% per cycle, aviation fuel fraction selectivity exceeding 80%, completion of kilogram-scale catalyst preparation, and stable operation of the unit for up to 1,500 hours. The project has passed industry-level achievement appraisal and acceptance by the Department of Science and Technology of Shaanxi Province.
