Shell Group Installs First AEDs at Lianjia Stores in 11 Cities on World First Aid Day

September 12, 2026, is World First Aid Day. Shell Group's "Life-Saving Community Stores" program completed the first batch of AED installations at Lianjia stores in 11 cities: Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Tianjin, Wuhan, and Xi'an. Nationwide, 1,000 Lianjia and Shell agents volunteered to receive professional CPR and AED certification training. On the same day, agents collected professional first aid kits on site, which will be placed in their stores for use. More than 600 Lianjia stores across the country are already equipped with first aid kits. Certified agents will display a first aid skills badge on their personal profiles in the Shell app, and users can click to view their first aid certificates.

The "Life-Saving Community Stores" program was launched in July 2026 by Shell Group and its Lianjia brand together with Tencent. It is another major initiative by Shell since it announced in March 2026 the launch of a "consumer-centric" upgrade of its community residential services model. Under the plan, the two parties will hold special events in more than 20 cities nationwide, providing professional first aid training to tens of thousands of real estate agents. At the same time, relying on AED devices near communities and first aid kits in stores, Lianjia stores will be built into key community positions in the city's "5-minute social rescue circle."

In China, more than 1.03 million people suffer cardiac arrest each year, and more than 80% of cases occur outside hospitals. Medical research shows that the golden rescue time after cardiac arrest is only 4 minutes, and for every minute of delay, the survival rate drops by 10%. The Lianjia stores where AEDs are installed this time focus on covering areas with high foot traffic, concentrated elderly populations, and long distances from hospitals. The AED devices are installed in prominent positions on store exterior walls and are marked with unified signage. They are available 24 hours a day, and anyone can access them nearby and provide rescue.

Agents who receive professional first aid training certification will be officially registered as Tencent Penguin First Aid volunteers. When the platform receives a cardiac arrest request for help, the Penguin First Aid platform will push rescue instructions to registered volunteers within a 3-kilometer radius of the incident. Lianjia agents who receive the notification can bring the store's AED to the scene to provide first aid. The 120 dispatch center and the public can view the location of the nearest available AED in real time.

Shell has been engaged in community public welfare work for many years. In 2018, it launched the "Let Me Teach You to Use a Mobile Phone" class, which has reached 142 cities nationwide and served more than 1.72 million elderly people. In response to the risk of falls among elderly people in communities, it launched the "Steady Plan," focusing on age-friendly renovations of corridors. By the end of 2025, Beijing alone had completed renovations of 1,051 corridors, installed 9,900 handrails, and benefited more than 25,000 residents.
