China's six major state-owned banks published their 2026 interim reports on August 28. ICBC, ABC, Bank of China, CCB, BoCom, and PSBC reported net profits attributable to shareholders of RMB 173.682 billion, RMB 146.381 billion, RMB 123.594 billion, RMB 169.564 billion, RMB 47.874 billion, and RMB 51.503 billion respectively, with year-on-year growth of 3.32%, 4.93%, 5.10%, 4.62%, 4.04%, and 4.62%. Except for ICBC, all banks exceeded 4% growth. ICBC's net interest income rose 8.82% to RMB 341.237 billion.

On August 28, all six major state-owned banks completed the disclosure of their 2026 semi-annual reports. The net profits attributable to shareholders of the parent company for ICBC, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Bank of Communications, and Postal Savings Bank of China were RMB 173.682 billion, RMB 146.381 billion, RMB 123.594 billion, RMB 169.564 billion, RMB 47.874 billion, and RMB 51.503 billion, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 3.32%, 4.93%, 5.10%, 4.62%, 4.04%, and 4.62%. Except for ICBC, the net profit growth rates of the other five banks all exceeded 4%.

ICBC achieved net interest income of RMB 341.237 billion in the first half of 2026, up 8.82% year on year; operating income of RMB 446.163 billion, up 9.06%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company of RMB 173.682 billion, up 3.32%; and basic earnings per share of RMB 0.47. Agricultural Bank of China reported operating income of RMB 411.122 billion, up 11.18%; net interest income of RMB 312.244 billion, up 10.54%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company of RMB 146.381 billion, up 4.93%; and basic earnings per share of RMB 0.4.

Bank of China reported operating income of RMB 356.903 billion in the first half, up 8.48% year on year; net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company of RMB 123.594 billion, up 5.10%, compared with RMB 117.591 billion in the same period of 2025; and net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company after deducting non-recurring gains and losses of RMB 123.479 billion, up 4.99%. China Construction Bank reported operating income of RMB 426.333 billion, up 10.48%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company of RMB 169.564 billion, up 4.62%. Its net interest margin was 1.37%, up 3 basis points from the full year of 2025 and 1 basis point from the first quarter of 2026. The bank plans to distribute an interim cash dividend of RMB 2.010 (pre-tax) per 10 shares for 2026, with a total dividend of approximately RMB 52.582 billion.

Bank of Communications reported net operating income of RMB 142.540 billion in the first half, up 6.77%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company of RMB 47.874 billion, up 4.04%; and earnings per share of RMB 0.52. Postal Savings Bank of China reported operating income of RMB 192.482 billion, up 7.26%; of which net interest income was RMB 147.147 billion, up 5.82%; and net fee and commission income rose 12.20% year on year. Net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company was RMB 51.503 billion, up 4.62%.
