Sony Beta Update Makes Enhanced PSSR 2.0 Default for PS5 Pro, Adds Bluetooth Management for Base PS5
Sony has pushed its August system software beta to test participants, making enhanced PSSR 2.0 image quality the default setting on PS5 Pro for all games. The feature, first introduced in March 2026 alongside Resident Evil: Requiem, can still be disabled manually. The update also adjusts Bluetooth management on base PS5, affecting standby and HDMI link functions in esports venues, alongside routine performance and stability improvements.
Sony recently pushed the August system software beta to test program participants, bringing a major change to PS5 Pro: enhanced PSSR image quality is now the default setting for all games. After installing the update, PS5 Pro users no longer need to search for a manual toggle in the system menu; all games automatically deliver a clearer, sharper visual experience. Official patch notes state that this setting activates automatically after updating the system software, and once enabled, games that support the older PSSR will use the enhanced version instead.
PSSR 2.0 is not a new feature. Sony first launched it in March 2026 alongside Resident Evil: Requiem, but the toggle was previously buried in Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Players who prefer the older visuals can still disable the feature via Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, turning off Enhanced PSSR Image Quality; this toggle is exclusive to PS5 Pro.
The beta update also brings adjustments to the base PS5: selecting Turn Off Bluetooth under Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings will simultaneously disable standby mode and HDMI link functions. This change primarily targets esports venues that manage multiple controller connections. The patch notes also promise routine performance and stability improvements.
Sony has not yet announced a specific timeline for graduating this feature from beta and rolling it out to all users.
