T-Mobile Nationwide Outage Leaves Many iPhones Showing 'SOS', Unable to Call or Use Data; Company Says Fixing

Around 4 p. m. Eastern Time, T-Mobile suffered a large-scale network outage across the United States, causing many iPhones to malfunction with the status bar uniformly displaying the 'SOS' indicator. Users nationwide reported service disruptions, with the impact widespread.

Affected iPhone users could not make calls, send text messages, or use cellular data. The SOS icon in the status bar indicated a complete lack of network connection, though users could still make emergency calls, a basic function retained by iPhones when regular cellular signal is lost. A T-Mobile spokesperson said the company's teams were actively responding to reports of customers affected by a technical issue and were working to resolve all service disruptions. All available resources had been mobilized to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

When users see 'SOS' or 'Searching' in the status bar of an iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular model), it means the device is not connected to a cellular network and can only be used to make emergency calls.
