Tencent-Led Group to Acquire Manus Stake for About $2 Billion, Becoming Largest Shareholder

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Tencent, along with Sequoia China and ZhenFund, will acquire Meta Platforms' stake in Chinese AI developer Manus for about $2 billion, making Tencent the largest shareholder. The deal follows China's order to unwind Meta's December 2025 acquisition. Manus's annual recurring revenue reached $400-500 million by June 2026, up from $100 million at Meta's purchase. Tencent had not commented.

Tencent will acquire a stake in Chinese AI developer Manus from US-based Meta Platforms, becoming its largest shareholder. Meta acquired Manus in December 2025 for $2 billion, but in April 2026 China's National Development and Reform Commission ordered the deal to be unwound, prompting Manus to announce in August that it had severed ties with Meta. Tencent, together with Chinese venture capital firms Sequoia China and ZhenFund, will acquire Meta's stake in Manus, with the total transaction value roughly equivalent to the price Meta originally paid.

The buyback by existing major shareholders including Tencent, ZhenFund and Sequoia China was for $2 billion. As of June 2026, Manus's annual recurring revenue was between $400 million and $500 million, up from $100 million at the time of Meta's acquisition. The revenue growth was partly supported by Meta's advertising system. Tencent had not responded to a request for comment.
