Tencent Unveils Hunyuan Hy4 Preview with Bigger Parameters and Context

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Tencent released the Hunyuan Hy4 preview in late August 2026, following the Hy3 official launch in July. The model features 770 billion total parameters, 49 billion active parameters, and a 1 million-token context window. In internal blind tests, Hy4 scored 2.99 out of 4, surpassing GLM-5.3 (2.92) and Kimi K3 (2.94). It ranked fifth in Arena. ai's WebDev code arena with 1633 points.

Since chief AI scientist Yao Shunyu joined in the fourth quarter of 2025, Tencent has accelerated its model release cadence: the Hy3 preview arrived in April 2026, the official Hy3 version followed in July, and the Hy4 preview was introduced at the end of August. The official Hy4 release is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Hy4 preview uses a mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture, with notable gains in both model scale and long-text handling. Total parameters reach 770 billion, up from 295 billion in Hy3; active parameters stand at 49 billion, versus 21 billion previously; and the context window supports 1 million tokens, compared with 256,000 tokens in the prior generation.

In Tencent's internal double-blind evaluation, the Hy4 preview averaged 2.99 points out of 4, ahead of GLM-5.3's 2.92 and Kimi K3's 2.94. On the third-party Arena. ai code leaderboard (Code Arena: WebDev), the Hy4 preview ranked fifth with 1633 points, trailing top models such as Kimi K3 and Qwen3.8 Max.
