Toshiba has begun retail sales of its new S300 AI series surveillance hard drives, designed for AI-driven video applications. Initial models include 8TB and 10TB capacities, with the 8TB priced from RMB 2,949, both backed by a five-year warranty. The drives support 64 HD cameras plus 32 AI streams, offer up to 281MB/s read speeds, and are rated for 24/7 operation. Larger capacities up to 24TB are planned.

In late 2025, Toshiba introduced the S300 AI series hard drives, a new generation of surveillance-oriented mechanical drives engineered for AI-driven video applications. The company has recently begun selling the series through retail channels, with initial capacities of 8TB and 10TB. The 8TB model starts at RMB 2,949, and both capacities come with a five-year warranty.

Toshiba said the new drives are built for high-resolution video capture, analysis, and storage, delivering higher capacity, enhanced performance, and enterprise-grade durability to meet the demands of AI surveillance workloads. As the surveillance market grows rapidly, AI analytics impose new requirements on storage performance, capacity, and reliability. With the S300 AI series, Toshiba continues to expand and tailor its mechanical hard drive lineup, introducing devices purpose-built for AI workloads.

The S300 AI series supports 64 high-definition cameras plus an additional 32 AI streams, handling the extra random access introduced by AI workloads to enable fast video data retrieval and precise real-time AI analysis. The drives feature a standard 3.5-inch form factor, spin at 7,200 RPM, and use a SATA 6Gbps interface. Both 8TB and 10TB models include 512MB of cache, achieve sequential read speeds of up to 281MB/s, support 24/7 operation, and offer a mean time between failures of up to 2.5 million hours.

According to Toshiba's roadmap, the company will later release additional capacities of 14TB, 16TB, 18TB, 20TB, 22TB, and 24TB.
