Ubisoft to Test Ubisoft Connect Services via Steam Integration in September 2026

Ubisoft has announced that it is testing a new way to launch its games, called Ubisoft Connect Services. The approach no longer requires players to install or launch the full Ubisoft Connect client; instead, a lightweight tool integrated into Steam provides the relevant services. Through this mechanism, players can still use cross-platform progress sync, cross-platform multiplayer, the challenges system, rewards, and player safety features without having to run the Ubisoft Connect launcher separately. The first test subject for the new system is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and Ubisoft will verify the stability of the new Steam integration and its user experience in a real environment.

Ubisoft said the version being introduced is only the first step in the overall plan. The company will continue to iterate on and optimize Ubisoft Connect Services based on player feedback, and plans to gradually extend it to more Ubisoft games on Steam. Ubisoft did not announce the closure of the existing platform; rather, it is separating out its core functions and embedding them into the Steam ecosystem in a more lightweight form. With the growing popularity of Steam Deck, and the continued development of compatibility layers and conversion tools such as Proton, FEX, and Lepton, more and more players are running Windows games through SteamOS, Linux systems, and other environments.
