UBS reported second-quarter 2026 net profit of $2.8 billion and pre-tax profit of $3.6 billion. CEO Sergio Ermotti said the recent pullback in AI-related stocks is a normal market adjustment. The bank announced a $3 billion share buyback program, with $1 billion to be repurchased in the next three months, sending its U. S. -listed shares up 2.5% pre-market. Ermotti noted profitability is nearing pre-Credit Suisse acquisition levels, and the bank maintains a strong pipeline in investment banking, M&A, and capital markets, including participation in SpaceX's IPO.

UBS Chief Executive Sergio Ermotti said after the earnings release that the recent pullback in artificial intelligence-related sectors is a normal market adjustment.

The results show that UBS's investment banking, M&A and capital markets businesses have a strong project pipeline, with leveraged finance, debt capital markets and equity capital markets all performing positively. The IPO market remains active, and UBS participated in several transactions, including the listing of SpaceX.

Ermotti noted that although 2026 is not yet over, UBS's profitability is already close to the level before the acquisition of Credit Suisse. Meanwhile, UBS announced a total share buyback program of $3 billion, with an initial $1 billion in repurchases to be executed over the next three months. Following the news, UBS's U. S. -listed shares rose 2.5% in pre-market trading.

On the market outlook, Ermotti said that global geopolitical rifts will continue to pressure markets, but overall growth momentum remains sound. Regarding the AI investment theme, he said that given the rapid expansion of market capitalization and increased concentration in related sectors over the past three to four months, a correction is to be expected. He further noted that AI and its supporting infrastructure will continue to drive market development, and the economic value they create will gradually spread to more industries.
