Waymo Opens Robotaxi Service to Public in Las Vegas With 24-Hour Operations

On September 14, 2026, Waymo announced that its driverless taxi service has opened to public riders in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is the latest commercial operating area Waymo has added after Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Austin.

The service operates 24 hours a day in Las Vegas. Its initial coverage spans a key corridor comprising the core resort hotels of the Las Vegas Strip, the Fremont Street Experience in the old downtown area, and major downtown business and transit hubs. Local residents and visitors do not need to queue for a waitlist; they can simply download the Waymo One app to hail a driverless vehicle with no human safety operator.

Addressing Las Vegas road conditions such as dense pedestrian traffic, hotel pickup and drop-off loops, large nighttime convention events and special traffic controls, Waymo said its all-electric fleet equipped with the sixth-generation hardware suite has completed tens of thousands of miles of preliminary road testing and scenario adaptation validation. The vehicles use a multi-sensor fusion setup of surround lidar, high-definition radar and high-dynamic-range cameras, combined with an end-to-end AI perception and prediction model, to handle situations including merging at hotel porte-cocheres, multi-lane changes and dense pedestrian crossings.

In advancing the business, Waymo worked with the Nevada Department of Transportation, local municipal agencies and major resort groups to define geofenced designated pickup and drop-off points at popular resort hotels and entertainment complexes and to conduct joint testing. On pricing, the Las Vegas driverless ride-hailing service uses a dynamic pricing system similar to that of traditional ride-hailing, with no driver in the vehicle.
