Xbox Font Icons Hint at Disc-to-Digital Rollout This Month

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Leaked icons from a Windows font suggest Microsoft may launch its Xbox disc-to-digital conversion feature this month. The icons, found in the 'Xbox Fluent v2 Regular' TrueType font, depict a disc with transition symbols. Recent documents indicated public testing began in July 2026, with a full rollout expected later this month for Xbox One and Series X users. The feature binds a digital license to a disc, though transfer mechanics remain unclear.

Icons for an Xbox disc-to-digital conversion project appear to have leaked ahead of any official announcement. The two icons were found in a Windows TrueType font named 'Xbox Fluent v2 Regular', which carries a 2021 copyright year and functions similarly to symbol fonts such as Wingdings. As a result, the icons may not be newly created artwork.

The shared images show a disc as the central element, accompanied by a symbol suggesting the transition from physical media to a digital format. The Reddit user who posted the images said a friend who tracks Microsoft Store leaks discovered the icons in the font library. Recent related documents mentioned that public testing of the Xbox disc-to-digital feature, along with early access to original Xbox backward compatibility, began in July 2026. According to those documents, the disc-to-digital feature is expected to roll out fully later this month for Xbox One and Xbox Series X console users.

The documents state that after inserting a supported physical disc, users can bind a digital license to that game. However, they do not explain the technical process for how the license would transfer or be revoked if the disc changes ownership. Previously, on the Digital Foundry podcast 'DF Direct', co-host John Linneman said he had learned from multiple sources that Microsoft had originally planned to retain some form of physical game support for its next-generation Xbox hardware.
