Xiaomi Smart Appliance Plant in Wuhan Begins Production
Xiaomi's smart appliance factory in Wuhan's East Lake High-Tech Development Zone has started production, turning out one air conditioner every 6.5 seconds with a first-pass yield above 99%. The plant uses 65 AI vision inspection systems and 120,000 data collection nodes, while an overhead logistics system covering 80% of material transport links six workshops. Xiaomi's connected air conditioners total 19.6 million units.
At Xiaomi's smart appliance factory in the East Lake High-Tech Development Zone in Wuhan, Hubei province, more than 100 autonomous mobile robots move back and forth delivering key components, robotic arms on workstations pick up and install parts, and an overhead conveyor belt with a total length of 4.2 kilometers runs steadily above the plant floor, transporting materials.
The factory's main production lines rely on a smart manufacturing platform independently developed by Xiaomi, integrating 65 AI vision inspection systems and 120,000 data collection nodes covering production processes, logistics parameters, and physical assembly, among other elements. On average, one air conditioner rolls off the line every 6.5 seconds, all key components undergo AI vision quality inspection, and the first-pass yield exceeds 99%.
The overhead conveyor belt in the workshop is equipped with an AI-powered fault diagnosis system that can identify and predict equipment anomalies in real time and connects six major workshops: electronics, heat exchangers, indoor units, injection molding, outdoor units, and sheet metal. The overhead logistics system covers 80% of material transport at the plant, enabling materials to flow between workshops. A large screen in the factory showroom displays real-time data from Xiaomi air conditioning equipment. The Xiaomi team has integrated its self-developed AI intelligent control algorithms into quality inspection across the entire production line. Xiaomi air conditioners currently total 19.6 million connected units.
Users can operate air conditioners remotely, and cloud platform smart quality inspection technology enables second-level precise screening of key component faults, allowing maintenance personnel to resolve issues in a single visit. With the completion and production start of the Xiaomi smart appliance factory, Xiaomi has formed a complete industrial loop in Wuhan covering design, research and development, production, and validation. Building on the mature application of key air conditioning technologies, Xiaomi plans to extend its self-developed intelligent control algorithms to refrigerators, washing machines, and other major appliance categories.
