China Sets 2030 Targets for Ordos Coalbed Methane: Reserves Up 600 Billion Cubic Meters, Output 18 Billion

China's National Energy Administration has issued the Action Plan for Increasing Reserves and Production of Coalbed Methane in the Eastern Region of the Ordos Basin (2026-2030). The plan states that during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the coalbed methane base in the eastern Ordos region will comprehensively improve quality and efficiency, with a significant increase in production capacity and output. Key core technologies are expected to achieve breakthroughs, and development coordination mechanisms will become more robust. By 2030, the proven geological reserves of coalbed methane in the eastern Ordos region will increase by more than 600 billion cubic meters compared with the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Coalbed methane output will reach 180 billion cubic meters, of which deep coalbed methane output will be over 160 billion cubic meters.
