China Biopharma Job Market Rebounds in H1 2026: Innovative Drug R&D Posts Up 84%, Smart Devices 113%

China's biopharmaceutical talent market is recovering, with the fastest growth in positions related to innovative drug R&D (including AI-driven pharmaceuticals), smart medical devices, and overseas expansion. According to the 2026 Biopharmaceutical Industry Talent Development Report, job postings for these three categories rose 84.0%, 113.1%, and 10.0% year on year respectively in the first half of 2026. The sector had previously seen a contraction in recruitment due to capital environment pressures, but the market has recently rebounded.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that in the first half of 2026, industrial value-added output of pharmaceutical manufacturers above designated size grew 5.6% year on year, with total profits reaching RMB177.32 billion, up 4.2%. Cumulative export value stood at RMB123.9 billion, up 7.8%. During the same period, the number of job seekers applying to the biopharmaceutical industry increased 7.7% year on year.
