China Chain Store Survey: 75.5% of Malls See Foot Traffic Growth in H1, 69.8% Sales Up

A July survey by the China Chain Store & Franchise Association covering 1,978 shopping malls from 53 enterprises found that 75.5% of firms reported foot traffic growth in the first half of the year, with 43.4% seeing a 5% to 10% increase and 17% a 10% to 15% rise. Only 13.2% of enterprises saw a decline in foot traffic, and the declines were mostly marginal.

The survey also showed that 69.8% of enterprises achieved growth in total sales, while 22.6% reported a decline. Member consumption as a share of total sales increased for 69.8% of enterprises and decreased for 15.1%. Online sales as a share of total sales rose for 43.4% of enterprises and fell for only 7.5%.

The survey indicated that 79.2% of enterprises are optimistic about foot traffic in the second half of the year, and 67.9% are optimistic about sales volumes.
