China Green Fuel Report 2026: Biomass Power Capacity 47.43 Million kW, Biofuel Output 7.3 Million Tonnes

Biomass energy has become a key pillar of China's green fuel system. The recently released China Green Fuel Development Report (2026) shows that urban and rural waste is being continuously converted into green energy through waste-to-power incineration and waste-oil conversion, covering multiple applications including power generation, heating, gas, and liquid fuels.

In 2025, China's total installed biomass power generation capacity reached 47.43 million kilowatts, with annual biomass heat supply of about 520 million gigajoules, biomethane output of about 550 million cubic metres, and bio-liquid fuel production capacity of 7.3 million tonnes of oil equivalent. During the same period, China's production capacity for biomass-based aviation fuel and vehicle liquid fuel ranked among the world's highest, and the scale of application of related products in transport and aviation continued to expand.

Drawing on agricultural and forestry residues, used cooking oil, and crop stalks, the biomass energy industry chain has now integrated collection, storage, transport, conversion and manufacturing, and end-use applications. Products are widely used in sectors such as transport, aviation, heating, and industrial kilns, where emission reductions are difficult to achieve through wind and solar power, providing stable capacity support for the green fuel system.
