China Quality Inspection Association Launches Transparency Initiative for Maternal and Infant Products as

On September 17, the China Quality Inspection Association and other organizations jointly launched the "Initiative on Strictly Ensuring High-Quality Transparent Quality Control of Maternal and Infant Products and Supporting High-Quality, Reassuring Consumption for Peace of Mind in Childcare." Li Xiaobo, president of the China Quality Inspection Association, took part in the event, where experts from fields including quality inspection, public health, disease prevention, health supervision, toxicology and child health discussed transparent quality development in the maternal and infant industry.

GB15979 is the hygiene standard for disposable sanitary products. It applies to disposable sanitary products including diapers and sets requirements for raw material hygiene, production process hygiene, product hygiene, packaging, transport and storage, labeling, and corresponding testing methods. It officially took effect on July 1, 2025. Zhu Renyi said the national standard means product information disclosure is a legal requirement, and that which content must be labeled has a corresponding basis in law and standards; after consumers receive a product, they can consult the relevant standards to learn whether the product complies and whether the relevant content is labeled in accordance with standard requirements.

In recent years, quality and safety issues involving disposable sanitary products have repeatedly drawn attention. In 2025, the problem of defective sanitary pads and diapers being recovered, refurbished and resold was publicly disclosed. In 2026, the issue of formamide in diapers sparked a public controversy.
