China's digital publishing industry reached RMB 1,879.933 billion in total output in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 7.51%, according to an annual report released at the 16th China International Digital Publishing Expo in Jinan. The event, held from August 27, 2026, drew nearly 500 exhibitors from China and abroad. Internet advertising, online games, online education, and digital music remained the top four sectors.
The 16th China International Digital Publishing Expo opened on August 27, 2026, in Jinan, Shandong Province, under the theme "Digital Innovation, Smart Future." The three-day event attracted delegations from 20 provincial-level regions in China, alongside publishers and industry associations from nearly 30 countries and regions, including Greece and Kenya. In total, close to 500 domestic and international organizations participated, showcasing the latest achievements and development trends in digital publishing.
During the expo, the China Academy of Press and Publication released the "2025-2026 Annual Report on China's Digital Publishing Industry." The report showed that the industry's overall output reached RMB 1,879.933 billion in 2025, up 7.51% from the previous year, maintaining a steady growth trajectory. Revenue from digital versions of traditional books, newspapers, and periodicals grew modestly, while emerging digital publishing segments continued to expand at a faster pace.
The report also noted that internet advertising, online games, online education, and digital music remained the top four revenue-generating sectors, serving as the industry's main pillars. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), the digital publishing industry's total output achieved a double-digit cumulative growth rate, underscoring its sustained expansion and development potential.
