Datengxia Hydropower Project Surpasses 30 Billion kWh in Cumulative Output
As of September 1, the Datengxia water conservancy and hydropower project has generated over 30 billion kWh of electricity cumulatively, with more than 2,300 days of safe continuous operation. The green power output can meet the electricity demand of a two-million-population city for nearly two years, support about RMB 425 billion in GDP growth, and save approximately 9.9 million tonnes of standard coal while cutting carbon dioxide emissions by about 24.75 million tonnes.
As of September 1, the Datengxia water conservancy and hydropower project has surpassed 30 billion kWh in cumulative electricity generation, maintaining safe continuous operation for more than 2,300 days. The 30 billion kWh of green electricity can meet the electricity needs of a city with a population of two million for nearly two years, support approximately RMB 425 billion in GDP growth, and is equivalent to saving about 9.9 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 24.75 million tonnes.
The Datengxia project is a key node in the national water network and a control project in the Pearl River basin, integrating flood control, navigation, power generation, water replenishment for salinity suppression, and irrigation. The power station is equipped with eight of the largest axial-flow propeller-type hydroelectric generating units in China, with a total installed capacity of 1.6 million kW. It serves as a major peaking and frequency-regulation station in the Guangxi power grid, playing a critical role in safeguarding flood safety in the basin, water security in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promoting navigation upgrades, and stabilizing regional power supply.
