Hong Kong Consumer Council Finds Supermarket Buy-One-Get-One Offers Fall Short of Half Price

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

The Consumer Council analysed online prices for 222 packaged food and household items at three major supermarket chains, including ParknShop, Wellcome and AEON, between September 2025 and July 2026 through its Price Watch information platform.

The council cited a buy-one-get-one offer on a 150-millilitre bottle of sesame oil. During the promotional period, the single-unit price was HKD 20 or HKD 22, higher than the HKD 10 to HKD 14 before the offer. Calculated on a per-unit basis under the offer, the discount compared with the pre-promotion price reached a maximum of about 29%.
