Indie Developer Says Google AI Leaked Unreleased Character Name; Google Denies Doc Training

Klub Kofta Studio, developer of the indie game Operation Octo, recently encountered an unusual incident. The developer said a player querying Google AI about unreleased game update content received the name 'Vantage Tripod', an unpublished character. According to the developer, the character name had never been disclosed to the public, nor did it appear in game code, the Steam backend, or any publicly released document. To the developer's recollection, the only trace of the name in the digital world was stored in a private Google Doc.

In response, Google said the company does not use users' private Workspace documents, including Google Drive and Docs, to train foundational AI models such as Gemini.

At present, there is no conclusion on how the AI obtained the unreleased character name. After related discussions appeared on platforms such as Reddit, the phenomenon could no longer be reproduced; when subsequently asked the same question, the AI only cited relevant community discussion posts as its information source.
