Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Holds Solid-State Battery Standards Meeting, 10 Draft
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a meeting to discuss 10 draft industry standards for solid-state lithium batteries, covering the full industry chain and three major technical routes: sulfide, oxide, and polymer. The series of standards, coordinated and drafted by the China Electronics Standardization Institute, covers the full industry chain: solid electrolyte raw materials, cell manufacturing, performance testing, safety specifications, and terminology classification.
The 10 draft solid-state battery industry standards, all of which have completed their consultation drafts, are divided into four segments: solid electrolyte materials, general cell specifications, testing and evaluation, and safety testing. They simultaneously cover the three mainstream solid-state technology routes: sulfide, oxide, and polymer. In terms of specific clause structure, the 10 standards form a three-tier regulatory system: first, four core electrolyte material standards set uniform technical indicators for purity, ionic conductivity, thermal stability, and storage stability of polymer, sulfide, and oxide solid electrolytes, accompanied by testing specifications for silicon-oxygen anode-compatible solid-state battery materials; second, three cell and general standards establish a unified terminology and classification method for solid-state batteries, general technical requirements for small and medium power solid-state cells, and a quantitative evaluation standard for solid-solid compatibility; third, three testing and safety standards unify full-dimensional safety testing procedures for cycle life, vacuum weight loss determination, thermal runaway, and nail penetration and crushing, establishing a data mutual recognition mechanism across enterprises and third-party testing institutions.
The 10 industry standards form a supporting system with the national standard for vehicle solid-state batteries, "Solid-State Batteries for Electric Vehicles Part 1: Terminology and Classification" (GB/T 43568-2026), which took effect on July 1. That national standard sets quantitative red lines: products with liquid electrolyte content between 5% and 20% are defined as hybrid solid-liquid batteries (commonly known as semi-solid); only products with a liquid electrolyte mass ratio below 5%, and which pass a 120°C vacuum baking test for six consecutive hours with a weight loss rate not exceeding 0.5%, may be labelled as "all-solid-state batteries." The 10 industry standards refine implementation rules on this basis, building a two-tier regulatory system of "national standards define the category, industry standards define the process."
