Russia Launches Commercial 5G in 16 Cities, Covering About 10 Million People
Russia's Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media announced on September 11, 2026 that the country has launched fifth-generation mobile communication (5G) services. In the first phase, 5G networks have been switched on in 16 cities, including Moscow, St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.
The first-phase 5G service reaches about 10 million people and is provided by four Russian operators, including Mobile TeleSystems and MegaFon.
