World's First 16MW Tension Leg Floating Wind Platform Connects to Lufeng Oil Field Grid
CNOOC's Haiyou Anlan, the world's first 16-megawatt tension leg floating wind power platform, connected to the Lufeng oil field grid on August 6, supplying green electricity directly to offshore oil fields. Installed in 136 meters of water 136 kilometers offshore, the platform will deliver 54 million kWh of green power annually and pioneers a combined wind, fuel and storage power supply model.
The world's first 16-megawatt tension leg floating wind power platform, Haiyou Anlan, successfully connected to the Lufeng oil field grid on August 6, beginning direct green power supply to offshore oil fields. Built by CNOOC, the platform marks significant progress in China's deep-sea floating wind equipment sector and explores a new technical route for offshore wind development.
A tension leg floating wind platform is a large floating installation designed specifically for deep-sea wind development, comprising an upper floating hull, a seabed anchoring foundation and a mooring system. Haiyou Anlan is installed at the Lufeng oil field in 136 meters of water, 136 kilometers offshore. Standing nearly 110 stories tall, it carries a 16-megawatt typhoon-resistant turbine and was designed and built to withstand extreme conditions equivalent to a category 17 typhoon, with a design service life of 25 years.
The platform connects to the Lufeng oil field grid via a submarine cable approximately 4.3 kilometers long. To address the high variability of wind power, the project pioneered a combined power supply model integrating offshore wind, fuel-fired generation and energy storage, achieving high-proportion integration of offshore wind into the oil field grid.
