Xi'an Yicai Says 12-Inch Silicon Wafers in Short Supply, Negotiating Price Hikes; Youyan Silicon Completes

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

Two Chinese silicon wafer makers held interim results briefings on September 2, discussing price trends and outlook. Xi'an Yicai said 12-inch wafers are in tight supply, with prices recovering from 2026 after a downturn that saw declines of over 30% from peaks. Youyan Silicon has completed price adjustments for 6-inch and 8-inch wafers. Xi'an Yicai reported first-half shipments of about 5 million wafers, up 29.76% year on year, with a global market share of 7.7%.

Two silicon wafer companies held interim results briefings on September 2 to discuss industry trends, wafer price changes, and future plans with investors.

Yang Xinyuan, chairman of Xi'an Yicai, said the silicon wafer industry entered a downturn from 2022 to 2025, with prices falling more than 30% from their peaks. In 2026, demand from AI computing power, high-bandwidth memory, and data centers, combined with a recovery in consumer electronics, has driven sustained order growth for AI chips, advanced logic chips, and memory chips. This has fueled rapid growth in demand for 12-inch silicon wafers, which are now in short supply globally, with prices beginning to recover from 2026. The company is continuously negotiating price increases with customers for different products.

Zhang Guohu, general manager of Youyan Silicon, said the company has gradually completed price adjustments for its 6-inch and 8-inch silicon wafers, and will continue to communicate with customers and assess pricing strategies based on market supply-demand changes and industry trends.

At the briefing, Xi'an Yicai disclosed that its shipments in the first half of 2026 were approximately 5 million wafers, up about 29.76% year on year. Revenue from prime wafers plus high-end test wafers accounted for about 80% of total revenue, and epitaxial wafers accounted for more than 20% of prime wafers, up over 50% year on year. The company's global market share by shipments was about 7.7%, ranking first in China and sixth globally in the 12-inch silicon wafer segment.

Youyan Silicon also provided an update on the integration of its subsidiary DGT. Through the acquisition of DGT, the company has extended its industrial chain and enhanced its competitiveness in consumables for etching equipment. Production management and cultural integration are proceeding smoothly, and operations are normal. As DGT's capacity utilization improves, the company's profitability will gradually strengthen. Youyan Silicon said it will continue to pursue both domestic market development and international expansion around its core businesses of semiconductor silicon wafers and components, maintain differentiated competitive advantages in mature products, and advance the development and commercialization of advanced products to deepen and broaden customer collaboration.
