Kumamoto Man, 70, Rearrested for Killing Cohabiting Woman, 75

Kumamoto Prefecture police rearrested a 70-year-old unemployed man, Iwahashi Isao, on July 27 on suspicion of killing his 75-year-old cohabiting partner, Moriki Nuo, by strangling her in late June. Iwahashi was previously arrested on July 7 for allegedly abandoning the victim's body in his home. Police said the suspect made statements implying the murder.

The Kikuchi Police Station in Kumamoto Prefecture rearrested Iwahashi Isao, a 70-year-old unemployed resident of Kikuchi City, on July 27 on suspicion of killing Moriki Nuo, a 75-year-old restaurant operator, with whom he lived. The police allege that around late June, Iwahashi strangled the victim to death in his own home in Kikuchi City. According to the police investigation, Iwahashi made statements during questioning that indicated the killing.

Iwahashi was previously arrested on July 7 on suspicion of abandoning the victim's body in his Japanese-style room between late June and July 6. When the body was discovered, it was placed on a futon.
