China's June Industrial Output Up 5.3%, Manufacturing and Export Shipments Strong
China's industrial value-added above designated size grew 5.3% year-on-year in June 2026, accelerating 0.8 percentage points from May. Month-on-month, output rose 0.76%. Manufacturing expanded 6.0%, while mining fell 2.2% and utilities grew 7.4%. Export delivery value surged 14.8% to 1.5592 trillion yuan, and the sales rate reached 95.5%. For the first half of 2026, industrial output rose 5.4%.
In June 2026, the value-added of industrial enterprises above designated size grew 5.3% year-on-year, accelerating 0.8 percentage points from the previous month. On a month-on-month basis, June's value-added rose 0.76% from May. For the January-June period, value-added increased 5.4% year-on-year.
By three major sectors, mining value-added fell 2.2% year-on-year in June, manufacturing rose 6.0%, and production and supply of electricity, heat, gas and water increased 7.4%. By type of ownership, state-controlled enterprises grew 4.1%, joint-stock enterprises 6.2%, foreign-invested and Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan-invested enterprises 1.8%, and private enterprises 4.3%.
By industry, among 41 major industrial categories, 29 maintained year-on-year growth in June. Coal mining and washing fell 5.9%; oil and gas extraction rose 1.0%; agricultural and sideline food processing rose 3.1%; beverage, alcohol, tea and refined tea manufacturing rose 6.1%; textiles rose 3.4%; chemical raw materials and chemical products fell 0.1%; non-metallic mineral products fell 2.3%; ferrous metal smelting and rolling rose 3.3%; non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling fell 3.8%; general equipment manufacturing rose 9.9%; special equipment manufacturing rose 10.0%; automobile manufacturing rose 8.7%; railway, ship, aerospace and other transport equipment manufacturing rose 18.2%; electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing rose 7.0%; computer, communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing rose 15.7%; and electricity and heat production and supply rose 7.8%.
By product, among 626 products covered, 314 saw year-on-year output growth. Steel output was 126.56 million tonnes, flat year-on-year; cement 144.23 million tonnes, down 5.6%; ten non-ferrous metals 7.19 million tonnes, up 3.9%; ethylene 3.37 million tonnes, up 5.5%; automobiles 2.824 million units, down 0.2%, of which new energy vehicles 1.624 million units, up 29.4%; power generation 827.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 2.0%; crude oil processing 51.24 million tonnes, down 17.7%.
In June, the sales rate of industrial enterprises above designated size was 95.5%, up 0.8 percentage points year-on-year. Export delivery value reached 1.5592 trillion yuan, a nominal year-on-year increase of 14.8%.
Based on seasonal adjustment model automatic revision, the month-on-month growth rates of industrial value-added above designated size from June 2025 to May 2026 have been revised. After revision, the month-on-month growth rates were: June 2025 0.50%, July 0.38%, August 0.39%, September 0.62%, October 0.17%, November 0.46%, December 0.48%; January 2026 0.26%, February 0.71%, March 0.28%, April 0.05%, May 0.40%, and June 0.76%.
