China's H1 2026 GDP Reaches 69.6 Trillion RMB, Up 4.7% Year-on-Year; Multinationals Pledge Continued

China's gross domestic product reached 69.6 trillion RMB in the first half of 2026, a 4.7% year-on-year increase, with the 3.6 trillion RMB increment being the largest for any first-half period in five years. Social retail sales of consumer goods and services grew 2.7% year-on-year. New drivers such as high-end manufacturing, digital economy, and modern services contributed over 40% to economic growth. Several multinational companies, including Nestlé, Medtronic, Schneider Electric, and Tiansi Group, announced additional investments in China.

The increment of 3.6 trillion RMB was the largest for the same period in the past five years. Total retail sales of consumer goods and services grew 2.7% year-on-year. New growth drivers, including high-end manufacturing, the digital economy, and modern services, contributed more than 40% to China's economic expansion.

According to Rockwell Automation's 2026 Smart Manufacturing Status Report, 83% of Chinese manufacturing companies have already deployed artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance operations, and they plan to further expand application over the next year, a rate higher than the global average.

Since 2020, Nestlé has invested more than 6 billion RMB in China, building a localized production and R&D network. Over 90% of its products sold in China are now produced locally. Medtronic has established two innovation centers and two venture capital funds in China, upgrading its core development goal to "China for the world." Schneider Electric regards China as its second-largest market, one of the most important global supply chain bases, and one of its four major R&D hubs.

In the first half of the year, imports and exports of computing hardware such as electronic components and computer parts maintained rapid growth. Tiansi Group will continue to expand its presence in China by focusing on product innovation, channel deepening, and scenario integration, enriching its differentiated product portfolio, increasing local R&D efforts, building a omnichannel distribution network, and deepening the scenario-based operations of the Red Bull brand.
