China's summer grain procurement is approaching its conclusion and preparations for the autumn grain purchasing season are essentially complete, the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration said on September 16, 2026.
Nationwide purchases have reached 100 million tonnes of wheat and 12 million tonnes of early indica rice, a pace slightly ahead of 2025. Relevant state departments promptly activated minimum purchase price plans for wheat in Henan and Anhui, and for early rice in Jiangxi and Hunan. To date, 1.2 million tonnes of wheat and 900,000 tonnes of early indica rice have been bought under the minimum purchase price scheme.
Autumn grain covers many varieties, large volumes and a wide area. Peak-season purchasing will begin in late September and continue through the end of April 2027. Autumn crops are currently growing well, with corn planting area increasing in major producing regions such as Northeast and North China.
Next, the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration will closely monitor autumn grain production and sales, strengthen market monitoring and information dissemination, and guide all types of market participants to actively enter the market for purchases. It will leverage the leading and driving role of grain reserve enterprises, promptly activate minimum purchase price plans for mid- and late-season rice in eligible areas, and ensure smooth channels for farmers to sell grain. At the same time, it will strengthen guidance for farmers on scientific grain storage and make full use of grain post-production service centers for drying and cleaning.
