In late July 2026, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) formally approved the Nigeria-Morocco cross-border gas pipeline project. The US$25 billion pipeline, exceeding 4,000 kilometres, will link Nigeria and Morocco by land, enabling direct delivery of West African natural gas to European markets. This initiative aims to transform the existing trade pattern, which currently requires overseas processing of gas before it is shipped back to Africa.
