EU Diplomat Says New Russia Sanctions Proposed for Autumn 2026, Losses Exceed 1 Trillion Euros
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the bloc plans to propose a new round of sanctions against Russia in autumn 2026, which would be the broadest since the full-scale Ukraine crisis began. She noted existing measures have cost Russia over 1 trillion euros, and the new package would increase the number of sanctioned Russian entities by one-third.
Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said the bloc intends to propose a new round of sanctions against Russia in autumn 2026, which would be the most extensive since the full-scale escalation of the Ukraine crisis.
In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, Kallas noted that previous EU sanctions have already cost Russia more than 1 trillion euros. Once the new round is implemented, the number of sanctioned Russian entities would increase by one-third compared with the current level. She did not disclose the specific timing or details of the new measures.
