Iran's IRGC Navy Says Strait of Hormuz Is Blocked and Under Smart Control

On September 14 local time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said in a statement that the supertanker Algaya struck a mine and then exploded while attempting to cross a prohibited navigation zone south of the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement said that as firefighting operations did not succeed, the vessel became engulfed in fire. It emphasized that warnings had previously been issued about the danger of this illegal route.

The IRGC Navy also announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked and continues to be under Iranian smart control.
