Japan's Q2 2026 GDP Expands 0.3% on Quarter, 1.1% Annualized; Third Straight Gain

Japan's economy grew for a third consecutive quarter in April-June 2026, with real GDP rising 0.3% from the previous quarter and 1.1% on an annualized basis, according to preliminary data from the Cabinet Office. Personal consumption, a key domestic demand pillar, declined 0.02% quarter-on-quarter, while business investment fell 1.2%. Exports rose 0.5% and imports decreased 1.5%.

During April-June 2026, Japan's real gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.3% from the previous quarter on a seasonally adjusted basis, after adjusting for price changes, equivalent to an annualized growth of 1.1%. This marked the third consecutive quarter of positive growth.

Personal consumption, a pillar of domestic demand, fell 0.02% quarter-on-quarter, while business investment declined 1.2%. In the same period, exports increased by 0.5% and imports fell by 1.5%.
