Keidanren: 2026 Summer Bonus at Large Firms Hits Record 1.04 Million Yen; Construction Tops 2 Million
Keidanren's final tally of 2026 summer bonuses at large Japanese companies showed union members' average payout of 1,042,537 yen, up 7.04% from last summer and the highest since current data collection began in 1981. Construction led with an average of 2,026,633 yen, about 1.6 times last year's level and the first time above 2 million yen. Manufacturing rose 6.23% to 1,093,629 yen, while non-manufacturers gained 8.96% to 941,145 yen.
Keidanren released on the 6th its final tally of summer bonuses and one-off payments for 2026 at large companies. The average amount achieved by union members was 1,042,537 yen, up 7.04% from last summer, the highest since the current statistical method was introduced in 1981. The figure rose for the fifth consecutive year and topped 1 million yen for the first time in a summer survey.
In construction, the average was 2,026,633 yen, about 1.6 times last summer's level, and the first time the sector has exceeded 2 million yen in the industry breakdown. The overall average set a summer record for the second straight year.
The survey covered 163 companies in 22 industries, each with at least 500 employees. Among 126 manufacturers, the average was 1,093,629 yen, up 6.23%; among 37 non-manufacturers, it was 941,145 yen, up 8.96%.
