Ministry of Water Resources Activates Level IV Flood Response for Six Provinces as Typhoon Baihaitun
China's Ministry of Water Resources activated a Level IV flood-control emergency response at 6 p. m. on August 7 for Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and Jiangxi, as Typhoon Baihaitun is expected to cause significant water-level rises in the Taihu Lake basin, Qiantang River, and other waterways. The ministry urged local water authorities to monitor the typhoon and rainfall, strengthen emergency duty and consultation, enhance forecasting and warning, and scientifically manage water projects to safeguard lives and property.
In accordance with the Ministry of Water Resources' emergency response procedures for flood and drought disasters, the ministry activated a Level IV flood-control emergency response at 6 p. m. on August 7 for Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and Jiangxi. The ministry instructed local water authorities to closely monitor the movement of Typhoon Baihaitun and changes in rainfall and water conditions, strengthen emergency duty and consultation, enhance monitoring, forecasting, and warning, and scientifically regulate water projects. They were also tasked with ensuring flood control on rivers, safety of reservoirs during flood season, and prevention of flash floods in small and medium rivers and mountain torrents, so as to safeguard the lives and property of the public.
