PBOC: Interbank RMB Trading Falls 12.5% in August 2026

China's interbank RMB market recorded combined turnover of RMB 177.41 trillion in August 2026 across lending, outright bond trading and repo, averaging RMB 8.45 trillion a day, down 12.5% year on year, the People's Bank of China said. Average daily interbank lending fell 24.6%, outright bond trading rose 2.3% and pledged repo fell 15.1%. The weighted average interbank lending rate was 1.38% and the pledged repo rate 1.4%.

By instrument, average daily interbank lending fell 24.6% year on year in August, average daily outright bond trading rose 2.3%, and average daily pledged repo fell 15.1%.

On rates, the weighted average interbank lending rate stood at 1.38% in August, 0.02 percentage points lower than the previous month and 0.02 percentage points lower than the same period in 2025. The weighted average pledged repo rate was 1.4% in August, 0.02 percentage points lower than the previous month and 0.01 percentage points lower than the same period in 2025.
