Sichuan Unveils Urban Renewal Plan for 2026-2030, Targeting 80,000 Old Communities and 59,000 km of Pipes

The People's Government of Sichuan Province recently issued the "Urban Renewal Plan of Sichuan Province for the 15th Five-Year Plan Period", setting out the main tasks and objectives for urban renewal across the province during the period. According to the plan, Sichuan will renovate approximately 60,000 dilapidated urban houses and apartments, upgrade 8,000 old residential communities, and install elevators in 15,000 existing residential buildings.

In terms of municipal infrastructure, the plan proposes to build and upgrade more than 59,000 kilometres of urban underground pipelines and auxiliary facilities, and carry out the redevelopment of 420 urban villages. In addition, 220 outdated neighbourhoods and factory zones will be renovated, about 200 new or expanded public parking facilities will be built, and more than 90,000 public parking spaces will be added. The plan provides a clear direction for the implementation of urban renewal work in Sichuan over the coming five years.
