Train Hits Car at Unmanned Crossing in Hokkaido; No Injuries, Same Spot Had Accident in September
On the morning of 28th, a train collided with a light car at a crossing on the JR Senmo Line in Hokkaido. The crossing had no barriers or alarms. The train carried 48 passengers and the car driver, a man in his 60s, were uninjured. The same crossing had a similar accident in September 2024. Service was suspended for about 4 hours before resuming.
At around 7:40 a. m. on the 28th, a train collided with a light car at a crossing on the JR Senmo Line in Kiyosato-cho, Hokkaido. The crossing was not equipped with barriers or alarms. A local train (two-car formation) heading towards Ryokuhatsu Abashiri struck a light car. The 48 passengers on the train and the male driver of the car, who was in his 60s, were all uninjured.
The accident site is about 300 meters west of Shibetsu Station, with residential buildings in the vicinity. In September 2024, the same crossing also experienced a train-car collision. Following the accident, some sections of the JR Senmo Line were suspended, and service resumed after approximately 4 hours.
