Japanese Fencer Yuka Ueno Secures Medal at World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong
On the sixth day of the World Fencing Championships, held in Hong Kong on July 27, 2026, two individual events were contested.
In the women's foil event, Yuka Ueno (Air Water) advanced to the semifinals, thereby securing a medal in the event, the first medal for a Japanese fencer in this discipline. As there is no bronze medal match, Ueno is guaranteed at least a bronze medal. Komaki Kikuchi (Sega Sammy) was eliminated in the third round, Seira Higashi (Kyodo Kaitec) exited in the second round, and Sumire Tsuji (Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank) was eliminated in the first round.
In the men's sabre event, Mao Kokubo (Miki House) and Satsuto Tsubo (T. U. B. Associates) were both eliminated in the second round.
