A-Share Midday: Shanghai Composite Up 0.42%, ChiNext Gains 1.61% as Tech Leads
On August 13 morning, A-share indices opened higher and traded narrowly. At midday, the Shanghai Composite rose 0.42% to 3,963.15 points, the Shenzhen Component gained 0.73% to 14,519.97, the ChiNext advanced 1.61% to 3,660.25, and the STAR Composite climbed 2.11% to 2,062.31. Communication equipment, CRO, innovative drugs, computing power, and semiconductors led gains, while precious metals, education, and real estate fell. More than 2,200 stocks rose, with half-day turnover near RMB 1.6 trillion.

As of the midday close, the Shanghai Composite Index stood at 3,963.15 points, up 0.42%; the Shenzhen Component Index was at 14,519.97 points, up 0.73%; the ChiNext Index was at 3,660.25 points, up 1.61%; and the STAR Composite Index was at 2,062.31 points, up 2.11%.
In terms of sectors, the communication equipment sector strengthened, with stocks such as Leon Technology and Quectel Wireless hitting the daily limit. CRO concept stocks were active, with Boji Pharmaceutical hitting the limit. Innovative drugs, computing power, semiconductors, baijiu concept stocks, and brokerages led the gains. The precious metals sector pulled back, with Xiaocheng Technology falling more than 6%. Education, real estate, oil and gas, and fertilizer and pesticide sectors led the declines. Across the market, more than 2,200 stocks rose, with half-day turnover near RMB 1.6 trillion.
