Agriculture Sector Leads CSI Tier-1 Industries with 7.16% Monthly Gain
China's agriculture sector led all 31 Shenwan tier-1 industries in September, with the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery index rising 7.16% month-to-date as of September 8. The sector's 114 constituent stocks posted an average gain of 9.38%, with 14 stocks up over 20%. Daily turnover reached RMB 53.82 billion, the second highest this year. Planting stocks led with a 13.3% average gain, while 28% of sector stocks hit the daily limit during the period.
On September 8, the agriculture sector continued its strong run, with the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery index rising more than 1% by the close. The sector has gained 7.16% so far this month, leading all 31 Shenwan tier-1 industries. Individual stocks were active, with multiple names including Yasheng Group, Ovodan Foods and Suken Agricultural Development hitting the daily limit.
The 114 constituent stocks of the Shenwan tier-1 agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery sector posted an average gain of 9.38% this month, with a median gain of 7.60%. Among them, 14 stocks rose more than 20% during the month, accounting for nearly 12.3% of the sector total.
By second-tier industry breakdown, planting stocks led with an average monthly gain of 13.3%, followed by feed and agricultural comprehensive stocks at 10.5% and 10.3%, respectively. Forestry, aquaculture and animal health stocks all gained less than 7% this month. Fishery and agricultural product processing stocks performed roughly in line with the sector average, with gains near 9%.
In terms of trading volume, the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery sector recorded full-day turnover of RMB 53.82 billion on September 8, up nearly RMB 9 billion from the previous day, an increase of about 20%. This turnover level was the second highest of the year, trailing only the RMB 60.13 billion recorded on January 30, 2026.
On stock price activity, 32 stocks in the sector have hit the daily limit at least once this month, accounting for 28% of the sector. Yasheng Group and Dunhuang Seed each hit the limit four times, Boen Group and Xinsai Co. three times, and Wandong De Farm, Jinjian Rice, Luoniushan and CNFC Overseas Fishery each twice. Among them, Yasheng Group and Dunhuang Seed at one point achieved four consecutive and three consecutive daily limits, respectively.
Across the broader market, during the six trading days since September, 308 stocks recorded 399 daily limit hits. By industry, agriculture, basic chemicals, media, electronics, retail and automobiles saw the most limit hits, accounting for 11.5%, 10.0%, 8.0%, 7.8% and 6.0% of the total, respectively, with a combined share of nearly 43%. Machinery, pharmaceuticals, light manufacturing and communications also had relatively high numbers. By Shenwan second-tier sectors, auto parts and general retail had the most limit-hit stocks, each exceeding 20 during the month, placing them in the top tier. Eight sectors followed, including planting, components, publishing, communications equipment, agrochemicals, chemicals, agricultural product processing and general equipment, each with 10 or more limit hits during the month.
