Amazon Prime Air Cargo Jet Skids Off Miami Runway, Bursts Into Flames

A Boeing 767 cargo jet bearing Amazon livery skidded off the runway while landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, striking several vehicles on an adjacent road and bursting into flames. The incident prompted the closure of all runways and taxiways and a ground stop at the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the freighter, operated by 21 Air, was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. An Amazon spokesperson later clarified that the flight was operated by Amazon and flown by 21 Air.
The accident occurred at about 2 p. m. local time, when the aircraft exited the runway and came to rest beside a road, near two semi-trailer trucks. Social media images showed the plane belly-down with its main fuselage intact, but thick black smoke billowing from the scene. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the aircraft struck multiple vehicles after leaving the runway and was on fire when crews arrived. The airport said more than 60 fire and rescue units responded, and several people were injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it was gathering information on the incident. An airport spokesperson said all runways and taxiways were closed, a ground stop was in effect, and all flight arrivals and departures were suspended. Details on casualties remained unclear, and the investigation was ongoing.
