Apple and Amazon will report earnings after the market close on July 30, 2026, with options market implied volatility above the historical median. Apple shares have risen 7% since the S&P 500's June 2 peak and are up 25% year-to-date, hitting repeated highs. In Apple options, over $634 million traded on Wednesday, with calls exceeding $470 million but net sentiment slightly bearish due to heavy seller positioning. Amazon options saw $615 million in volume, with puts dominant but net positive sentiment as traders sold rather than bought volatility. The earnings results are expected to determine whether the week's volatile trading ends on a stable note.

Apple and Amazon will report earnings after the market close, with investors watching whether the two tech giants can bring a conclusion to this week's volatile trading. Since the S&P 500 index hit its high on June 2, Apple's stock has risen 7%, bringing its year-to-date gain to 25% and setting repeated record highs.

In Apple options positioning, of the more than $634 million in options traded on Wednesday, call options accounted for over $470 million. However, the majority of those calls were held by sellers, resulting in a slightly bearish net trading sentiment. The most active contract expiring Friday was the $330 strike put, which requires a decline of more than 3% in the stock price to become profitable. In contrast, sentiment in the Amazon options market was more optimistic. Among the roughly $615 million in options traded on Wednesday, put options dominated, but traders were more inclined to sell rather than buy that volatility, leading to positive net trading sentiment, with approximately $3 million and 100,000 units of delta exposure.

The market generally believes that the earnings reports from Apple and Amazon will determine whether the stock market can end the week on a solid note. However, recent earnings results from large-cap tech stocks have been mixed — last week, Google and Tesla both fell, while Microsoft and Meta moved in opposite directions, with one rising and the other declining.
