China A-Shares Close Higher on Aug 12; Shanghai Composite Up 0.32% at 3,946
Mainland Chinese stocks rose on August 12, with the Shanghai Composite Index closing up 12 points, or 0.32%, at 3,946. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 154 points, or 1.09%, to 14,414. Combined turnover on the two exchanges shrank to 2.15 trillion yuan. The CSI 300 rose 0.58% and the ChiNext gained 1.49%. Property stocks led gains, rising over 2%, while oil shares fell more than 1%.
Mainland Chinese stocks advanced, with the Shanghai Composite Index closing up 12 points. The index fell as much as 6 points, or 0.17%, to a low of 3,927 before rebounding, then rose as much as 16 points, or 0.42%, to a high of 3,950. It closed the day at 3,946, up 12 points, or 0.32%, with turnover of 986.122 billion yuan. The Shenzhen Component Index fell as much as 22 points, or 0.16%, to a low of 14,237 before stabilizing and rising, then gained as much as 207 points, or 1.46%, to a high of 14,467. It closed at 14,414, up 154 points, or 1.09%, with turnover of 1.166301 trillion yuan. Combined turnover on the two exchanges shrank to 2.15 trillion yuan.
The CSI 300 Index closed at 4,690, up 27 points, or 0.58%, while the ChiNext Index closed at 3,602, up 52 points, or 1.49%. Sector performance was mixed: property stocks rose more than 2%; media and entertainment, nonferrous metals, electronic information, steel, and chemical stocks gained more than 1%; automobile manufacturing, financials, cement, and coal stocks held steady; oil stocks fell more than 1% against the trend; and biopharmaceutical and power stocks were soft.
