China Pharma Sector Falls 3.71% in Week, Underperforming Major Indexes

In the week of September 7–11, 2026, the A-share pharmaceutical and biotech sector fell 3.71% cumulatively, ranking 26th among the 31 Shenwan first-level industries and underperforming the broader market. Over the same period, the Shanghai Composite Index declined 1.07% for the week, while the CSI 300 Index fell 0.83%. Among pharmaceutical sub-sectors, chemical pharmaceuticals led the decline, dropping 4.94% for the week; medical devices and biological products each fell around 4%; traditional Chinese medicine and pharmaceutical distribution both declined more than 3%; and medical services fell 1.76% for the week.

The World Conference on Lung Cancer focused on domestic ADCs, with domestic ADCs making progress in improving survival for small cell lung cancer. Interim analysis results from the Phase III ARTEMIS-008 study of Hansoh Pharmaceutical's antibody showed that the study met its overall survival (OS) primary endpoint, with survival benefits that were statistically significant and clinically meaningful. After the interim reporting season, research and development progress on important innovative drug pipelines and major international academic conferences have become key areas of focus.
