Chinese companies announced RMB 67.6 billion in stock buyback plans in July 2026, the largest such wave since the US tariff escalation in April 2025. Chinese companies are set to undertake their largest stock buyback action since US President Donald Trump escalated tariff threats in April 2025. Data show that as of July 2026, mainland Chinese companies have announced total stock buyback plans worth RMB 67.6 billion, approaching the level seen during the tariff-triggered market crash in 2025. The largest buyback plans include CATL (03750) with up to RMB 40 billion and Foxconn Industrial Internet (601138. SH) with up to RMB 2 billion. China's stock market had a dismal July, with the CSI 300 index falling over 7%, set for its biggest monthly decline since October 2022, and the tech-heavy STAR 50 index dropping about 24%, its biggest decline since its launch in 2020.
